Cedar Hill grabs No.1 Seed, after defeating Duncanville

Cedar Hill's Tanner Milson last shot Friday, a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left, proved to be the dagger in Cedar Hill's 59-51 win over Duncanville in front of about 4,800 at the Dallas Basketball Classic at SMU's Moody Coliseum.

Duncanville, who started the season in the top spot in the Area, State and even National rankings struggled the last half of the season.

The area's top-ranked 5A teams were facing each other for the third time this season. The teams split their first two games and agreed to a one-game playoff for the top seed in District 7-5A.

Milson finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. His last trey, coupled with the play of Thomas Gipson (14 points, 14 rebounds), sparked a solid all-around performance for Cedar Hill (29-3), which held Duncanville (23-9) to one of its lowest point totals of the season.

Milson and Gipson were named co-MVPs for Cedar Hill. Shawn Williams (12 points, 10 rebounds) won the award for Duncanville.

Matt Kenseth wins biggest race of his carrer, the 51st Daytona 500

Matt Kenseth, the quiet, unassuming former NASCAR champion who had never been in contention at the Daytona 500, cried as he celebrated the biggest victory of his career in Sunday’s rain-shortened running of The Great American Race.
It was an unexpected show of emotion for one of NASCAR’s most underappreciated stars.
Then again, he’d waited a decade for a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl of stock cars. And the failures and frustrations of late had started to wear on the 2003 series champion, who vented to his wife just the day before the 500.

Johnson still the Man to beat in NASCAR, but rain may delay start at Daytona

Jimmie Johnson has a new look this season. He's ditched his clean-cut image and let some facial hair grow. But some things haven't changed. The three-time defending champion doesn't even enter the season as the overwhelming favorite to capture the title. That honor belongs to 2008 runner-up Carl Edwards.

Heading into todays race though the man that has won this race three times maybe the car to watch, and that man is the driver of the No.24 Dupont car, Jeff Gordon. Gordon found the winners circle this week during speed week and is the favorite.

Rain is threatening to delay the start of the Daytona 500.

Intermittent showers were expected to move across Daytona International Speedway a few hours before the start of the NASCAR race, which could potentially delay the green flag. It takes about two hours to completely dry the 2 1/2 -mile superspeedway after a rainstorm.

NASCAR officials, though, were hopeful the season-opening race would be completed Sunday—even if the entire event had to take place under the lights and in prime time.

Local forecasts called for a 70 percent chance of rain and scattered showers all afternoon and throughout the evening.

Lavey taking second trip to Tech

A&m hang on....The Aggies may not want to get their hopes up on landing Celina linebacker Caleb Lavey.

Yes, it is true that Lavey has already made two trips down to Aggieland, but is also planning his second trip out to Lubbock at the end of the month. Mike Sherman and the Aggies may not be the only ones that would lose out.

Already holding offers from nine different schools, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect definitely has his options. He's already visited five universities unofficially.

Don't forget Pro Bowl Today...See the NFL Network Got Smart

The NFL has lifted the local TV blackout for Sunday’s Pro Bowl, with the all-star game close to being sold out for the 30th straight year.

The league had granted two extensions before lifting the blackout for Hawaii.

The Pro Bowl has sold out, usually weeks in advance, every year since moving to the 50,000-seat Aloha Stadium in 1980. It will be televised on NBC.

There has been only one blackout in the history of the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. The 1982 game, which was the year of the players’ strike, was blacked out locally, although it was sold out by kickoff

LeBron or Kobe, who is the best in the NBA

To say it’s been an eventful week for LeBron James and Kobe Bryant would be an understatement.
After each topped the headlines for their performances at Madison Square Garden, Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers beat the defending champions on the same day James criticized the league for disrespecting a teammate. If that wasn’t enough, James also was stripped of his rare feat at the Garden.
To cap off this extraordinary week, the league’s two most dynamic players get the opportunity to square off Sunday when James’ Cavaliers (39-9) and Bryant’s Lakers (40-9) meet at Quicken Loans Arena in a matchup featuring the best team from each conference.

Texas No.5 in the Top 25 of Signing Day 2009

Mack Brown had 20 prospects signed by noon today, including top Texas prospects, quarterback Garrett Gilbert and defnsive lineman Alex Okafor.

Texas landed three in-state five-star recruits in Gilbert, Okafor and offensive lineman Mason Walters. Further bolstering that in-state dominance, the Longhorns landed one of the state's best defenders in Calvin Howell, a great possession receiver in Greg Timmons, a jumbo athlete in Chris Whaley and a shut-down corner in Marcus Davis. Texas also added depth to the offensive line beyond Walters with Thomas Ashcraft, Garrett Porter and Paden Kelley and two of the nation's best tight ends in Barrett Matthews and Trey Graham. After Oklahoma snatched up some of the state's best in 2008, the Longhorns locked down the state in 2009.

The Longhorns let one get away however when they lost LB/DE Jarvis Jones out of Columbus, GA. Jones was a late change and is heading to USC.

Things Looking Good In Aggieland

Over the last three seasons Michael has rushed for 3,925 yards and 74 touchdowns while catching 48 passes for 550 yards and six TDs. His stellar career did not go unnoticed. He was selected to represent the West squad in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Michael is what I call a five-tool back – he has tremendous vision, changes direction, runs with power, is a proven pass receiver and will block. The Aggies lost starting tailback Mike Goodson to the NFL draft, and short-yardage specialist Jorvorskie Lane just finished his senior campaign. This leaves Texas A&M with only one back on the roster with more than 200 yards (Cyrus Gray). I expect the Aggies to have one of the best one-two punches in the Big 12 next season with Gray and Michael.

District 13-4A is a Hot Bed for High School Recruiting

The biggest highlight of a high school football player’s career is “National Signing Day” and East Texas continues to be a hot bed for solid recruits.

Across the state today there will be thousands of young men who will be signing letters of intent to play college football at the next level. There are some big time players that top the list from around East Texas and some of the best are coming out of District 13-4A.

Heading into the season, District 13-4A was said to be one of the toughest in the state and understandably with Longview (state finalist), Texas High, Sulphur Springs (Class 4A, Division II state champion), Marshall, Hallsville, Pine Tree and Mount Pleasant.

With Sulphur Springs bringing the Class 4A state championship back to the area, it’s only fitting that one of the hottest prospects in Texas calls Sulphur Springs home. Tyrik Rollison led the Wildcats to their first ever state championship this season and did it in dramatic fashion.

Rollison threw for 51 touchdowns this season combined for over 4,000 yards of offense for SS and will be heading to Auburn, choosing the Tigers over K State. “I’m just glad it’s over. I was getting so many calls, I had to change my number”, Rollison said. “We (Auburn and I) are a good fit and I want to do what I can to help the team.”

Fellow teammate Colton Nash was a big recruit in the area and is committed to Arkansas. Nash (6-6, 240 lbs) went with the Razorbacks because it just felt right. “After I left from my visit, I told my mom this is where I need to be”, said Nash, who had already made an early visit to Colorado and had interest from Auburn, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

Here is just what District 13-4A is sending to the next level:

Jake Bibb, OL, Marshall — committed to Arkansas Tech
Tarmaine Elliott, DE, Mount Pleasant, 6-2, 225 — committed to Tarleton State
Tevin Elliott, LB, Mount Pleasant, 6-3, 205 — committed to Baylor
Cobi Hamilton, WR, Texas High, 6-3, 190 — committed to Arkansas
Rafeal Hendrix, DB, Marshall — committed to Arkansas-Pine Bluff
LaMarcus Howard, DB, Longview, 5-10, 175 — committed to Southern Arkansas
Terrell Howard, ATH, Mount Pleasant, 5-9, 180 — committed to Tarleton State
Roman Hurndon, WR, Mount Pleasant — committed to Southeast Oklahoma State
Darius Jones, ATH, Marshall, 5-10, 175 — committed to Baylor
Chris Knighton, DE, Longview, 6-3, 235 — committed to Texas Tech
Eric McCowen, DE, Marshall, 6-3, 245 — committed to Missouri Southern
Darnell McLin, DT, Marshall — committed to Kilgore College
Joseph Patillo, DB, Longview — committed to Lon Morris College
Vinny Portley, OL, Longview — committed to Kilgore College
Jazz Reeves, DL, Longview, 6-3, 270 — committed to Southern Arkansas
Matt Sheppard, OL, Marshall, 6-4, 295 — committed to Louisiana Tech
Jacoby Thomas, DE, Texas High, 6-3, 225 — committed to Kansas
Colton Nash, DE, Sulphur Springs, 6-6, 240 — committed to Arkansas
Tyrik Rollison, QB, Sulphur Springs, 6-2, 185 — committed to Auburn

Florida State Steals Another Texas Quarterback

Frisco Wakeland QB Will Secord shown here is heading to FSU
Florida State's offensive coordinator and designated head coach Jimbo Fisher likes recruiting Texas. He came close but missed on Colt McCoy a few years ago but he got FSU starter Christian Ponder from Colleyville Heritage and now has come back to get another Texas QB.
Will Secord hosted FSU at his home on Sunday and has switched his commit from Arkansas to the Florida State. Indications from Fisher is that Secord has a great chance in the Seminole offense.

Brown Named Offensive Player of the Year for Class 5A

Matt Brown leads the pack on this years Class 5A, Texas Sports Writers Associations All-State football team. Brown was named the Offensive Player of the year after throwing for over 1,900 yards and was very instrumental in getting the Allen Eagles into the post season.

Brown fell to a post season shoulder injury in the win over Coppell and played a key role in the fast molding of back-up Tucker Carter, who led Allen to their first state title. Hey these two are back next season, head coach Tom Westerberg could put "Dual Threat QB's" on the field next season, two really good QB's that to complement the spread offense.

Guess you could say, the Eagles are flying high in Allen".

Another Super Bowl comes and AGAIN NO COWBOY'S!!

Well here we are again, Super Bowl XLlll and NO COWBOYS! Yea I'm pissed, it's time for Jerry Jones to wake-up, there is something wrong within the organization and someone needs to find out just what the problem is. Jones wants total control so he needs to step up and do something....

Hello, 13 Pro-Bowlers on the roster this past season and again we didn't make the playoffs. I say we because I'm one of those die-hard fan's. That's right I have been thru all the coaches, the 1-15 season, oh and let us not forget "The Greatest Team Ever", that's right Aikman, Smith and Irvin, there will never be another three like these.

So all I can say in honor of the Super Bowl is no matter who plays in it, I'll still grab my Wing Stop wings and party like my Cowboy's ar there. Heck yea I have my Cowboy shirt on.

ONCE A FAN, ALWAYS A FAN.....In the great words of Jimmy Johnson, "How Bout Them Cowboys", now those were the days.
